Slimming World Barbecue Range: Thai Chicken Burgers Review!

The new Slimming World Barbecue range came out a few weeks ago but this past weekend was the first time I managed to get my hands on the goods! I only really wanted to try the Thai Chicken Burgers as I prefer to make my own beef burgers, although the Mediterranean Chicken sausages do look lush so these may be worth a try!

The instructions stated to either grill or BBQ the burgers but I did mine in the oven on 180ºC (fan assisted) for about 25 minutes.

I tasted one straight out of the oven and they were gorgeous; really meaty as you can tell with the perfect spice mix. They’re not spicy at all, just flavourful (yes that is a word, I think).

I had two of the burgers with a load of salad for my lunch at work the next day so I reheated them to eat them warm. I have to say I ruined them when I reheated them in the microwave because they went really rubbery and were difficult to cut. The flavour was still there but they were hard to chew because I had blasted them in the microwave. So I would say if you make these in the oven like I did, eat them straight away or eat them cold if you’re having them the day after. I have eaten them since straight out of the oven and they really are lovely.

At only 136 Calories each, you can easily have two with salad like I have or have one on a bread cake and eat barbecue style ( as intended). You get 4 in a pack and they are really satisfying but at £3 they may be a bit too expensive for people to have all the time. They’re definitely worth it for a treat every now and again and take all the preparation out of hand making your own burgers.

I give these a 7 out of 10 because the flavour is there, just don’t reheat them!

Slimming World Ready Meals Review!


Ok so I was super excited for this release, purely because I love the Slimming World recipes and had high hopes for these meals as the recipes are really tasty.

Available exclusively at Iceland stores and online, this was ideal for me as Iceland is one of my regular places to shop anyway. I plan on having a few of these meals in stock for those days when I am either too knackered to cook or just feeling a bit lazy.

The meals I chose were the Meatballs & pasta with a spicy tomato sauce and the Chicken tikka masala. Queue vain pose with the meals:


My mum tried the Beef in red onion gravy with veg crush but also bought the Hot-smoked salmon farfalle to try.

NB: This is an honest opinion and is in no way endorsed by Slimming World. I have genuinely wanted to try these ever since my mum told me they were being released.

So last night I tried the Meatballs with pasta dish. It looks like this before going in the microwave.


It definitely looks better than other frozen ready meals I have had; that’s before it cooked! I followed the microwave instructions on the pack which were pretty easy to follow. One thing I noticed right away is that this meal in particular is quite high for calories and was about 550 calories for the whole thing. However, if you are on Slimming World plan, then these meals are all classed as Free. I try to have an even balance and not completely concentrate on calories but rather on how healthy the foods I eat are. I allowed the meal to cool for a minute as the instructions stated and then plated mine up with a side salad of bagged lettuce,tomatoes,cucumber and onion.

I wasn’t sure how the meatballs would taste because meat in frozen ready meals tends to leave a lot to be desired and can taste like cardboard. However, when I bit into a  meatball it was so meaty!

These are really good quality meatballs and I was really impressed with them. The meat is beef and pork mixed together but I didn’t realise this and just thought they were beef. The meatballs weren’t soggy or full of breadcrumbs but were firm and juicy. The pasta was nice too but I have to admit there wasn’t a lot of sauce in the meal and the sauce that was there, was pretty watery. I added a bit of salt just for my taste but maybe a kick of chilli in the recipe wouldn’t have gone amiss.

I wasn’t expecting these meals to be a replacement or my normal food but just to have for those days when I really cannot be bothered to make anything, that I can quickly throw in the microwave and ding. That’s what they do!

My mum had the beef with veg crush, which she really enjoyed. She had hers with cabbage but did say that the veg crush was not to her taste as, again, it was too watery. One fantastic thing though, it that she said she was going to use the recipe on the back of the pack (yes, they all come with a recipe to allow you to re-create your own version) and make it again in future. I think this is the main point of these meals; that you can easily recreate them at home using easy to obtain ingredients.

I am really looking forward to trying the Chicken Tikka Masala because I love a good curry and I have also made the Slimming World recipe for this at home previously. It will be interesting to see Slimming World’s own take on a classic curry!

These meals are generously portioned and ideal for anyone both on the SW plan and also who are just looking to change-up their meals a bit for something different. I also think the price of £3 is fair because you get a lot for your money and these meals alone without a side dish would still be filling. Next on my list are the Singapore Noodles as I have heard fab things about these on the internet waves!

I definitely recommend anyone to give these a go because they really are ideal for those days when you are just too busy to cook or just want an easy, healthy meal.

“On Wednesdays we wear pink”-The Mean Girls Phenomenon

Ok so this is not really related to weight loss but I had to write a post as it tickled me so much.

Whilst walking to work this morning, these 3 girls walked past me on their way to school. As I glanced at them I suddenly realised with glee that they looked like a carbon copy of each other.

They all had the same style of duffle coat with fur around the trim. They all had long black midi skirts on (possibly uniform but you can wear trousers). They all had the same black tights on. They all had similar flat dolly shoes. They all had their bag held in the elbow join of their right arm. And get this, even their strides were almost in sync!Two of them had dyed blonde hair too but I couldn’t see the third as she had her hood up.

This made me chuckle so much because I realised that at that age, nobody wants to stand out. We all want to fit in with our peers and come across as likeable. Those of us who choose to stand out are marked with cruel nicknames and such like when all we are trying to be is unique.

Although I didn’t know these girls and they gave me no indication as to what their personalities were like, I likened them to the 3 clicky girls in the film ‘Mean Girls’.

“On Wednesdays we wear pink.” That sort of thing.

I now call out to women of all ages who feel they are not showing their true colours and are too afraid to break out of the mould. Borrowing those famous words;

 ‘Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.’ Judy Garland

I know for teenagers it’s slightly different and sometimes you sacrifice parts of your personality to make sure you fit in. It’s one of the most scary things allowing people to see the real and true version of you at that age. I get that. But maybe once in a while just let out a little bit of yourself; I guarantee you will feel empowered and grow in confidence. You are original and there is no one else in this world like you, so show it off!

‘Too Fat To Work’=Completely Ridiculous!

This story came up in my Facebook news feed and I could not believe my eyes. I wanted to swear I was so angry. Before I begin, take a look at the article and see for yourselves.

So basically the article is about a mother and daughter who claim £30,000 in benefits and both have state funded mobility scooters because they are ‘too fat to work’. According to them, they deserve the money…

I CANNOT and WILL NOT believe that the 17 stone daughter needs a mobility scooter, even if she has recurring leg problems. I was nearly 22 stone and I could still walk easily. This is just laziness of the highest order. I am gobsmacked that these people are allowed to promote the lifestyle of ‘I am meant to be this way’ and so don’t do any exercise.


How much more ill-informed can you be???

These people are claiming £30,000 a year in benefits because they openly accept the notion that they are ‘simply too fat to work’. I am aware that The Mirror have written this in such a way that it comes across as shocking; well its worked on me! They EVEN have a car that is paid for by us, the taxpayer, so that’s nice of us isn’t it?

The daughter is disillusioned; she ‘claimed she could not help being large because it’s in the family genes – so decided not to fight it.’ Now to me, this sounds like her mother has brainwashed her into believing that she cannot work because she weighs 17 stone. I know 17 stone is obese, but I know so many people who are or have been this weight or bigger (myself and partner included) who have held down jobs and moved about with little or no issue.

This bit shocks me the most:

The mother said: “There’s no point in dieting, it doesn’t make a difference. I’ve always been big and I’m too fat to work, so I have a genuine disability. I should be miserable, but I’m happy. I know this is the way I’m meant to be.” 

BEING FAT IS NOT A DISABILITY! I don’t care what anyone says; I know why I’m fat and its because I ate too much and did no exercise.


From watching the ‘What is the right diet for you?’ programme the other day, I accept that being overweight can, in some cases, be in your family history/genetic makeup. However, I distinctly remember the programme also stating that you can still take steps to improve your health despite having a genetic pre-disposition to being overweight.

One thing I do agree with though (can’t believe I just wrote that) is when the mother mentions the expense of healthier foods. She is partly right in the sense that higher calorie foods and junk foods like crisps, chocolate,etc  do tend to be cheaper. But, on the same scale, fruits and vegetables can be cheap and affordable too, if you buy them frozen and budget correctly.

So in conclusion, after almost swearing all over my lovely blog due to these lazy people, I will say that you should not take any of their ideas as your own because they clearly don’t understand the concept of wanting to live longer. These people have a very negative and warped idea about living healthy; they mention the word ‘diet’ a lot in negative sentences. It is clear, they have never tried to see life as living healthier and not a constant struggle of dieting.

The very fact that the mother was told ‘that if she wanted to work she could lose weight’ and she won a case and now gets £620 Employment and Support Allowance a month is laughable. She should not be entitled to this in my opinion because she has NO intention of looking for work and her support should come from her disability allowance and nothing else.

I may come across as cruel in this article but to be honest, I feel that strongly about it that I had to write this anyway.

People who decide that they can’t help being fat (unless its glandular) are wrong. Please don’t listen to them. You can help it. You don’t have to make yourself miserable by dieting. There are so many ways to look at this but the most important one is to give yourself a chance before you even begin to think about it not being worth it.


It is always worth it.

What is the right diet for you?-BBC2 programme

Hello there Slimmers!

I was watching this programme last night on BBC2 called What is the right diet for you?‘ and like many other weight loss programmes, I really enjoyed it.

I love watching anything that can fuel my thirst for knowledge on the subject of healthy living and weight loss.

The programme put people who have struggled with weight loss, into 3 groups based on tests they did throughout the programme to figure out what the best diet/eating plan for them should be.

There were 3 categories:

  • The Feasters-struggle to stop eating when they start
  • Constant Cravers-always want to eat
  • Emotional Eaters-Those who turn to food when stressed/anxious or depressed.

So whilst watching this programme, the cogs began turning in my head as I tried to figure out which category I might fall into. Then the programme mentioned you could take a test, so one with a thirst for knowledge, I did!

Just a note: When I first did this last night, I was 45% Feaster, 41% Constant Craver and 14% Emotional Eater, but I forgot to save the results so had to do it again this morning; so it has altered slightly as I forgot what I put.

This made me realise that basically, I just love stuffing my face at every given opportunity. I see food as something to enjoy and indulge in and not as something to purely fuel me.

I did a bit of research for both the groups I fall into and apparently a feaster needs to eat foods that will keep them full for as long as possible; so that’s a high protein, low GI diet (glycaemic index whatever that is). I should eat fish,chicken,lentils, grains and cereals but need to stay away from potatoes and bread because they do not keep you full for very long.

A constant craver always wants food so apparently the suggestion is to reduce my calorie intake to 800 calories for 2 days of the week and then eat what I want the rest of the week while still  being healthy.This is called intermittent fasting. This sounds like an absolute NIGHTMARE to me, so instead I am going to carry on as I am and maybe reduce the amount of carbs I am eating but no other major changes. I don’t think fasting for 2 days is good for anyone. It’s fine if it works for you but it’s not my sort of thing. I don’t think I could keep it up for the rest of my life anyway and it should be something doable that you can continue with in your routine.
