Exercise for the Lazy!

Right, this sounds counter-intuitive, but hear me out.

Before I lost weight, I was massively LAZY (and still am really). Exercise was the last thing on my mind.

And to be perfectly honest, I still struggle to motivate myself to go to the gym.(I’m only human)

But here are a few tips that I’ve found help keep me on track.

Exercise in the morning

Before my brain knows what it’s doing, I love to get to the gym before work and bash my workout out. That way, when I finish work, I can just leave with a big smile on my face and toddle off straight home to do whatever I like.(watch Ru Paul’s Drag Race)

Learn a few circuits

At the beginning, I really benefitted from a gym instructor who knew the right circuits to give me an all over workout, and I still do them to this very day. There’s all sorts on the internet with free fitness plans that are easy to figure out. Just have a search around. To get you started, there’s a good one on Popsugar’s website here. 

Have a plan for those days you REALLY CANT BE BOTHERED

On days like this, I swim. A great thing about swimming is it takes all the weight off your limbs and you can go at your own pace. So if you want to speed up, you can. If you’re especially lazy, go for a 10 minute walk. It’s on these lazy days, that you really need to get your body moving, to keep up the routine.

Workout with a friend

Go for a swift walk with your friend or relative, go for a bike ride, or a zumba class. Research shows, working out with a friend is better than lone workouts ( as long as you don’t spend the entire time talking; you’re here to exercise remember.)

Build exercise into your day

Every time you go to the loo, do 10 or 20 squats. Or skip 100 times. Do step ups on your stairs at home. This way you won’t even feel like you’re exercising but you get the benefit of those endorphins. Chase those endorphins!

Some of these tips might not work for everyone and you do need to have a certain amount of determination to start any exercise regime, but no one said it would be easy.

It’s all about making that start into fitness as you get such a buzz when you do something for the first time and then build on it.

Just this morning I was chuffed with myself for doing 100 stomach pulses in a circuit that I did 3 times. I hadn’t done that many for a while all at once, so I had a little victory yay in my head when I’d done 🙂

Just try and make a start with exercise; it’s not big and scary and you can reap huge rewards from it, such as improved cardio-vascular health and better all round fitness.

If I can make a start, ANYONE CAN!

 

Clubbercise Review

I have been so excited to write this post about possibly the most fun hour you will ever have!

As some of you may know if you follow me on my social media feeds, I have been going to Clubbercise for the past 4 weeks.

And it is bloody AMAZING!

If you’ve never heard of Clubbercise or you’re not sure what to expect, basically imagine being in a darkened room listening to nineties and noughties dance music and dancing in the dark with glow sticks…IT’S BRILLIANT!

I have been going to the gym for over 4 years now and I have NEVER felt as good as I do after one of Sonique and Sharon’s classes.

The first time I went I did feel a bit silly as I went on my own, but you quickly realise everyone else is in the same boat, and they’re all going for it!

I’ve now got my mum, best friend and sister into it and more on the way wanting to join too!

If you feel self conscious or have never exercised, this class is for all ages. I’ve seen teenagers, older women and women of all shapes, sizes and abilities take part and enjoy this class.

Sonique and Sharon lead the class on a raised stage and are covered head to toe in neon, so you can see their moves!

You can also modify for your abilities if you want, so when you get tired, you can just step instead of jump. You can also take a break off to the side during any songs to catch your breath but they do leave time to grab a quick drink.

I am more energetic in this class than I ever am at the gym and that really says something.

It’s £8 for your first session which may seem like a lot but you get the glow sticks too. Then it’s £5 a session and is held at Barnsley Academy on Monday’s and Thursdays, with two sessions on the Thursday. Both days have one at 7pm-8pm, and the other Thursday class is 8:15pm-9:15pm but I prefer to go to the earlier one, so I can get home and get showered. 🙂

Honestly, I would not rave about an exercise unless I really enjoyed it because I hate exercising. But I find myself looking forward to every Thursday as I can’t wait to get a sweat on.

It’s really empowering too and makes you feel like you can do anything. I swear yesterday I was punching the hell out of the air and really going for it!

So if you’re local to Barnsley or Doncaster (Sonique’s studio is based there), seriously try Clubbercise. I promise you won’t regret it!

Make sure you book in quick though because their classes sell out REALLY QUICKLY! They’re THAT GOOD!

Gym Expense Shocker!

Hi lovelies,

Hope you had a lovely weekend.

I had a bit of an epiphany this weekend (I know, I seem to have a fair few that I talk about on here).

I’ve been wanting to cancel my gym membership for a while as I feel like I’m stuck in a rut with my fitness and haven’t been enjoying it for a while. I’ve been there over 2 years, so I think I’ve done well to keep it up.

So I went yesterday fully intending to cancel; naturally they asked my reasons, so I was honest with them.

I explained that at £38 a month, I feel like I have to do all my exercise at the gym and if I want to try a class somewhere else, I can’t really afford it with my already expensive membership. I said that the classes that I want to do that the gym actually schedules, are always at a time when I’m at work, so I end up on a machine sweating away and not really enjoying it;that’s never a good sign.

She was really lovely to be fair but then also offered me a £29 a month saver rate if I wanted it….

I was shocked and thought about it for a second, then agreed to it as she said it would be for 6 months. But I couldn’t believe that I’ve been paying £38 all this time and all it took was a threat of cancellation and they throw me a £9 a month discount right off the bat!

What really irks me though, is why isn’t my membership that price regardless?!

I’m a loyal member and unless I had asked to cancel, this muggins over here would still be paying £38 a month for as long as they’d let me. They should reward their loyal members in my opinion to allow them to feel valued.

So I’m still at the gym (for another 6 months anyway) but am going to take advantage of their free PT session to show me how to use some of the equipment and also try and fit in some outside classes with the extra £9 outside of the gym.

There’s actually a fab looking clubbercise class that I really want to try, so I’ll let you know how that one goes when I’ve been. 🙂

New Gym Equipment

I walked into my gym the other day after it had been refurbished and immediately got a sense of ‘I don’t belong here anymore’. Why is that?

I pay my £38 a month just like everyone else and yet in my brain, because everything was new and shiny, it instantly made me feel like I should walk out and go elsewhere.

They’ve got these new things called plyosoft boxes and sandbells and all this new stuff that I’ve only ever seen in Instagram videos that only the top buff fitness gurus know how to use.




Now my predicament is, I’d love to give this stuff a go but I have a fear of feeling stupid in case someone tells me I’m doing it wrong.

Now you’re probably thinking, after all this time, I should have conditioned myself not to give a shit what people think and give myself credit that I’m a fast learner.

Well everyone has those demons in their mind that makes them second guess what they should be doing and how they should be doing it.

And I guess I’m not different.

I’m going to task myself to ask a staff member to show me how to use some of the new equipment because;

A. I don’t want to hurt myself

B. I want to learn new fitness routines

New Gymwear!

Just a quick post to say I got some new gym wear…hurray!

Well by gym wear I mean a pair of awesome workout spandexy tight things (what do you actually call them?!). At an absolute bargain these joggers were marked at £8 at Tesco, I took them to the till and they went through at £4.50!

They have a zip in the back for your phone and don’t go see through when you’re bending over (I had bright red stripy knickers on below these and Lee could not tell!) and they are really comfy. I thought I would sweat more because they’re full length but I need not have worried.

I felt a bit daft at first when I walked into the gym but then threw caution to the wind and got my sweat on!

I see so many people on Instagram and Twitter with their funky workout gear and wanted to join the party. So when Lee picked these up in Tesco to show me, I was so excited.

Some of you may think I’m daft for being excited about workout clothes but I think if you feel fab in your clothes, you will work harder at exercising. Personally, I’m one of those who looks at herself in the mirror at the gym to see what her workout clothes look like in different positions…don’t judge me! 😉
