My Anxiety Relief Rituals

Good Day to you lovelies! Ok, so I thought I would do something a little bit different today for my blog post because it is something I have been more aware of than usual recently. It isn’t necessarily weight loss based but it is related in a sense.

So, those who know me will know that I suffer from anxiety. It is something that began a few years ago in a previous job that was highly stressful and was just something I clearly wasn’t prepared for. Since one such occasion in the early hours of a weekday morning, where I began shaking out of nowhere; having heart palpitations, sweating and the sudden urge to go to the toilet, I have read up on anxiety and what causes it and how to prevent panic attacks from taking hold.

In the years since my anxiety came to the fore, I have learnt techniques to put into a daily routine to help me remain calm and also to help me sleep.

Exercise is MASSIVELY linked to this because it helps get rid of excess energy and alleviates stress. Also, after a workout, your body releases endorphins, which trigger a positive and happy feeling in the body. Just don’t exercise too close to bed time or it may keep you awake!

I have invested heavily in lavender and camomile scented products. I currently use the Avon Pillow Mist but can’t find it on their website so this is a similar one.prod_1177976

I spray this a few times on my pillow every night just before bed and the scent is so calming and lovely. I also like to have candles burning (only in the rooms you are in!) with calming scents to spread throughout my home. I find watching the flame flicker really soothing and relaxing (ok that may just be me that thinks that…nutcase!).

After I have a shower, recently I have taken to moisturising my face and neck before going back downstairs for the evening, purely because it feels a little like pamper time and adds to the calming down and winding the day to a close. At the minute I use Boots Botanics All Bright Hydrating Night Cream just because it’s a good all-rounder and helps calm my skin after a session at the gym.


My skin gets really dry and can crack if I don’t moisturise so this just makes me feel lovely and pampered. I would say anything that makes you feel pampered and treated helps reduce anxiety; whether its painting your nails, having a face mask or having a nice bath. It just helps take your mind off your anxiety for that moment to concentrate on looking after you.

If I’m feeling quite anxious, I make a cup of tea for bed. My favourite is Earl Grey, just because it brings back memories of being at uni sat in the cafeteria feeling really posh before my lectures with my housemate Christina.I just love Earl Grey tea but try to have decaf on an evening. It doesn’t taste fab as you have it without milk but it does ease off the worries and stress of the day, to calm you and relax you. Even if it’s a placebo effect, a good cup of tea before bed is a great stress reliever (if it’s decaf).

I find that breathing techniques when crazy anxious are really helpful because they force you to breathe slow and steady, counting your in-breath and then your out-breath. This all may sound like utter crap to those of you who have never experienced anxiety. But trust me, this feels like a true life saver if you have ever had a panic attack or are on the verge of one. I sit on my bed with my back leaning on a pillow and feet either straight out in front or cross-legged and breathe in slowly through my nose for 4 seconds, pause for 4, then breathe out through my mouth for 5-7 seconds. Do that 10 times whilst holding your diaphragm with one hand and your chest with the other. The aim is to eventually, with time, breathe from your diaphragm and not your chest but this comes with experience. I tend to do this straight out of the shower.

One thing I have found a massive life-saver and have been using for over a year now is the Happier app.


This is the best thing I have ever found on the internet hands down. It’s completely free and is used as a daily gratitude journal to remind you of those happy moments to focus on, even on bad days. This app has changed my life and I see things in each day to be grateful for now, that before went unnoticed. The app has a courses section where there are mostly free 5-10 day meditation courses for you to complete at your leisure. I am currently doing the Sleep Deep and Dream Sweet Course and listen to this whilst in bed in the dark, with my eyes closed.


I know it’s not best practice to use electronics right before bed but this works for me and I almost fall asleep while the course is playing through my earphones. You really need to try this app because it is fantastic and will help anyone with anxiety, even if you only use it for the courses.

Anxiety and Panic Attacks are horrible; there are many blogs on the internet which focus solely on anxiety and panic attacks but I felt the need to post after watching a few videos about them on YouTube and remembering how hard it was when I had no idea what was going on with my body. I felt like I was going to die and was very emotional at the time.

I wanted to post this as an unrelated post to weight loss but having said that, weight loss has massively reduced my anxiety because now I feel less anxious about my health than before, which is a really good thing.

Sorry for the massively long post guys but I hope it helps some of you shed light on how to relax and reduce anxiety.

Weigh Day Wednesday 25/3/15

Good Morning all,

Apologies for missing my post yesterday.Just didn’t seem to get round to it!

Anyways, I lost 1lb 3/4, if we take the lower measurement that I stuck with last week. This means I have finally got my 6.5 stone and my god has it taken a while!


I know what my issues are; I can’t stop snacking when I’m at work or at home. I need to glue my mouth closed.

Anyway, the other day I decided to take a picture with the same top I had on in my ‘Before’ picture when I very first started this weight loss journey, just so you can all have a nosey!

Here it is!



My entire body has changed and I have found curves I never knew I had. One thing to remember is, nobody has that magic cure for weight loss. I haven’t found this easy by any stretch of the imagination. It has been hard right from the start. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that ‘you can lose weight by doing this one thing’ because it doesn’t work that way. All these faddy diets are just that; fads.

You have to look at what you are eating and then make it healthier but you also have to do some form of physical activity that works for you.

Also, don’t deny yourself completely from having things like chocolate, crisps or alcohol because, from my experience, you will fall off the wagon like a ton of bricks and consume everything in your vicinity.Then you will feel so guilty that you carry on eating thinking it’s too late now anyway and nothing will change. Still enjoy them but more as treats and not a regular occurrence.

There is always time to change your diet and lifestyle. You start benefitting right from the beginning. I’m not here to preach to anyone about their weight or lifestyle choice. I just want you to know that if you want to lose weight and get fitter, you can do it despite what your will power may be telling you!

Hair problems!

Good morning lovelies.

Today is a post of the different kind as I am having particular problems with my hair lately.
I have naturally curly hair that is crazy frizzy all the time.I am also OCD about it like you wouldn’t believe.
I always wear my hair up at work because I feel I don’t have the time to dedicate to doing it properly and so it ends up slicked back on my head in a ponytail or bun.

I have lovely long hair but it’s so hard to manage because of how frizzy it is.Just in case some of you think, ‘everyone says they have frizzy hair and actually just have a few wispy bits’.No,my hair is FRIZZY! I have tried all sorts of products over the years and nothing seems to stick.
I think the problem may be more to do with the obsession of having my hair perfectly slicked back,and so when it is natural and flowing round my face,frizz and all,I can’t cope with it.

This is what my hair looks like today after putting a LOT of hair oil on both last night, this morning before I left,along with a bit of curling mousse and more oil when I got to work.

It is STILL FRIZZY! Everyone says I should have my hair down more often because it doesn’t look nice slicked back on my head but it’s hard to explain. To me, my hair HAS to be all going one way slicked back and I can’t see any fly-aways or wispy bits or I just go crazy.

I need advice! Am I really nuts or do any of you get seriously obsessed with having your hair all in one place?I want to embrace my natural curls but I can’t cope with the frizz. Have tried a lot of Frizz-ease products and lots of different hair oils. The only thing I can use is Shockwaves Power Volume hair mousse but I end up using so much of it and making my hair rock hard because the tiniest bits of frizz must be tamed!

When I have time, I like to use the John Frieda Frizz-ease 3-day straight spray and straighten my hair. This is the ONLY thing I can 100% say works for my hair, that’s because I’m using it to flat-iron it and also means I have pin straight hair for days!

I want to celebrate my natural curly hair but without the frizz; surely that’s not so hard?!




Plus Size Fashion Postings?

Hi lovelies,

I have been thinking about this for a while but haven’t quite known how to go about it. I want to start adding some plus size fashion posts to my blog but obviously want to keep the core of my blog the same, for weight loss and healthy lifestyle ideas.

So I thought I would ask my followers what they thought.

Would you like it if I began posting about new items of clothing I find in the plus size fashion sections of stores like Boohoo, Asos, New Look etc and reviewing them, along with posting pictures of how they look?

I would love to review some of the items I have found to be essential pieces of kit in a plus size lady’s wardrobe but don’t want to put any my current wonderful followers off!

Obviously the weight loss progress will still be blogged about but maybe with a bit of fashion style thrown in there too!

Weigh Day Wednesday 18/3/15

Hi There lovelies! This week has been a bit of an odd one for me.

We have had a lot of visitors up to our office at work and so bought in a lot of biscuits for them to munch on (my biscuity nemesis). I physically could not stop myself from eating them and grabbing one every time I went to the fridge. I don’t know how people can just sit and work knowing those biscuits of chocolatey goodness are sat there in the fridge waiting to be eaten!

Anyway, I got on the scales this morning and saw this…

So I’m not entirely sure if I’ve lost half a pound of put on 2. It’s a pretty big difference isn’t it?

So I’m going to take the lower measurement (because you just have to in times of possible weight gain) and focus on not eating everything that I deem edible! I have also been picking more at home when I get home from the gym. Last night whilst making stir fry and my meals for work, I managed to eat a strawberry, 2 crabsticks, some chicken, a chicken goujon,some natural yoghurt and some nuts. All that was before I ate my actual stir fry!

This is not good! I’m putting it down to the fact that it has been a Time of the Month week and so am starting afresh to hopefully have a decent loss! I want to get out of the 15’s soon and get some real progress behind me for 2015!

I may even throw in an extra day of exercise for good measure just to bump up my chances!

Anyway onto the next week with less biscuity goodness and more healthy options. Either that or I sew my mouth shut!
