Weigh Day Wednesday 25/2/15

Good Afternoon Weight Loss Warriors!

How are you all doing?Good!

Right my lovelies, this week has been a decent week in terms of exercise because from last Wednesday to this, I have been to the gym 4 times! Woo! This is really good for me because I HATE exercise, like REALLY hate it. But as my sister goes on a Friday, I thought I would push myself a bit, so I joined her.

I did my usual cardio stuff on the treadmill, bike and rowing machine but also decided to do some more arm weights to help tone up. It went well but my arms were still aching 3 days after I had been!

On the food front, I have done ok although those biscuit demons have reared their ugly heads a bit and I have had a few too many when I shouldn’t have. One positive of this past week however, is that I haven’t had much to drink alcohol wise because the week has just been so busy that I haven’t really had much time for anything other than collapsing on the sofa completely knackered at the end of the day.

I have decided to make a conscious effort to reduce my salt intake because I realised the other day that I have salt on and in everything. I use it in cooking and don’t even look on the packaging of some foods which are meant to be healthy. I need to make more of an effort to check the food labels of what I’m buying because there are hidden evils in a lot of meals and that’s not good at all. Some healthy foods are worst offenders for salt content so I need to keep my eye on the ball in future. This should also help reduce my chances of heart disease and such like.

Anyway on a brighter note, this week I weigh:

That’s a loss of 2.5lb’s woo! So I am still paddling away to lose some more podge and am hopefully on the right track to get to a decent average weight by the end of this year.

I don’t really know what I want my target weight to be. I’m just going to see how I feel as I lose the weight and get fitter and then take other steps to improve my health further to make for a healthier happier life overall.

Anyway that’s it for this weigh day wednesday.  I hope you all enjoy the rest of your day and keep on trying. It will happen, I promise.

Slimming World Ready Meals Review!

Ok so I was super excited for this release, purely because I love the Slimming World recipes and had high hopes for these meals as the recipes are really tasty.

Available exclusively at Iceland stores and online, this was ideal for me as Iceland is one of my regular places to shop anyway. I plan on having a few of these meals in stock for those days when I am either too knackered to cook or just feeling a bit lazy.

The meals I chose were the Meatballs & pasta with a spicy tomato sauce and the Chicken tikka masala. Queue vain pose with the meals:

My mum tried the Beef in red onion gravy with veg crush but also bought the Hot-smoked salmon farfalle to try.

NB: This is an honest opinion and is in no way endorsed by Slimming World. I have genuinely wanted to try these ever since my mum told me they were being released.

So last night I tried the Meatballs with pasta dish. It looks like this before going in the microwave.

It definitely looks better than other frozen ready meals I have had; that’s before it cooked! I followed the microwave instructions on the pack which were pretty easy to follow. One thing I noticed right away is that this meal in particular is quite high for calories and was about 550 calories for the whole thing. However, if you are on Slimming World plan, then these meals are all classed as Free. I try to have an even balance and not completely concentrate on calories but rather on how healthy the foods I eat are. I allowed the meal to cool for a minute as the instructions stated and then plated mine up with a side salad of bagged lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and onion.

The meal just out of the microwave.
Plated up with my salad.

I wasn’t sure how the meatballs would taste because meat in frozen ready meals tends to leave a lot to be desired and can taste like cardboard. However, when I bit into a  meatball it was so meaty!

super meaty meatball!

These are really good quality meatballs and I was really impressed with them. The meat is beef and pork mixed together but I didn’t realise this and just thought they were beef. The meatballs weren’t soggy or full of breadcrumbs but were firm and juicy. The pasta was nice too but I have to admit there wasn’t a lot of sauce in the meal and the sauce that was there, was pretty watery. I added a bit of salt just for my taste but maybe a kick of chilli in the recipe wouldn’t have gone amiss.

I wasn’t expecting these meals to be a replacement or my normal food but just to have for those days when I really cannot be bothered to make anything, that I can quickly throw in the microwave and ding. That’s what they do!

My mum had the beef with veg crush, which she really enjoyed. She had hers with cabbage but did say that the veg crush was not to her taste as, again, it was too watery. One fantastic thing though, it that she said she was going to use the recipe on the back of the pack (yes, they all come with a recipe to allow you to re-create your own version) and make it again in future. I think this is the main point of these meals; that you can easily recreate them at home using easy to obtain ingredients.

I am really looking forward to trying the Chicken Tikka Masala because I love a good curry and I have also made the Slimming World recipe for this at home previously. It will be interesting to see Slimming World’s own take on a classic curry!

These meals are generously portioned and ideal for anyone both on the SW plan and also who are just looking to change-up their meals a bit for something different. I also think the price of £3 is fair because you get a lot for your money and these meals alone without a side dish would still be filling. Next on my list are the Singapore Noodles as I have heard fab things about these on the internet waves!

I definitely recommend anyone to give these a go because they really are ideal for those days when you are just too busy to cook or just want an easy, healthy meal.

Good Job Slimming World. I am a convert! 😉

Weigh Day Wednesday 18/2/15

Hello my lovelies!

Ok So those of you who saw my most recent post about this week’s progress will know that I wasn’t hoping for any kind of loss, but that I was back on track for the next 2 days and would see where they took me.

Yesterday was Pancake Day woo! So after the gym I went home and made Pancakes for me, Lee and his youngest to enjoy. I am incapable of flipping a pancake purely because our pan is a heavy bottomed one so it’s an absolute nightmare! I had to flip the pancakes with 2 spatulas in one swift motion but they turned out sort of ok; they tasted nommy!

After having my pancake with some tinned tomatoes with beef Oxo in (gorgeous by the way), I went to bed trying not to think about my weigh in. Got up late this morning, launched myself out of bed to go get ready. Teeth brushed, face washed and then time to get the scales out. Nerves filled me because I was scared of what I might see due to my not too brill week of food.

I stepped on the scales and saw this:

I saw the 15 on them and my eyes went blurry because tears welled up in my eyes. I couldn’t believe it; I have got my 6 stone loss finally!

So this week I have lost 1 3/4 lb, which I am ecstatic about. The only thing I can put it down to is that after Wednesday’s weigh day, I went to the gym Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday, so because I had to fit in my day 3 of exercise for last week, it worked out that I got an extra day of exercise between last week’s weigh day and this week’s. Hope that makes sense!

Anyway, I am back on the straight and narrow so lets hope next week is a better week for my eating habits. Also, going to try the new Slimming World meals so look out for a review of the ones I have chosen. I am super excited to give those a go!

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day Weight Loss Warriors. Your journey starts with the first step; everything after that is progress! 🙂

Aloo Gobi Slimming World Recipe

Firstly I should say that I have made this recipe before based on a version my mum did. However, when wanting to make it again, I thought I would search the Slimming World site for a healthy version.

The link to the recipe is here: Slimming World Aloo Gobi Recipe

The dish is basically Cauliflower and Potato curry. Some of you may think that cauliflower is weird in a curry but I have to tell you it is amazing! You don’t know what you’re missing. This curry is perfect for those who like spicy but are either vegetarian or don’t eat meat often; or just fancy a change for that matter. Lee also pointed out to me that its pretty cheap to make and lasts a while in the fridge.

Mine made 4 tubs so I pretty much ate spicy food every day last week!FullSizeRender[2]

I didn’t add peas to mine purely because I didn’t have any so swapped them for 2 chopped carrots. I also used Medium curry powder and not mild as I prefer more spice! Mine ended up like this:

It was super nommy and extra spicy. 🙂 I didn’t have rice or wedges with it as the curry already has potatoes in, so I felt I had enough carbohydrates as it was.

One thing I would say is I would put the red peppers in later in future (when the cauliflower is almost cooked) because they disintegrate a bit and I prefer more of a bite to them; that’s just my preference though. 🙂

This curry is perfect to make up at the beginning of the week because it lasts all week in the fridge, can also be frozen and is perfect for those cold nights when you just want something quick and easy. I’m definitely an advocate of making up the week’s meals in advance because it makes your week-nights much less stressful and much more relaxing.

I was just sat nomming away at this whilst watching junk on TV.

mmmmm warm and cozy comfort food!

Ah nice and spicy Aloo Gobi; perfect Winter Warmer 🙂 Let me know if any of you decided to make this.

Feeling Deflated, but not Defeated!

Hi There Weight Loss Warriors.

The past week hasn’t been fantastic in terms of eating and I don’t really know why. We have all the healthy foods in the fridge and cupboards. I think sometimes I just get into one of those ruts where losing weight isn’t at the top of my priorities and I let myself enjoy too many treats when I should either be choosing the healthy options or not having a treat at all.

As I get weighed on a Wednesday, that’s kind of when my new week for weight loss starts over again. I maintained my weight last week so started from 16 stone 1/4 lb’s.I was off work on Wednesday, so me and Lee went to Meadowhall to do a bit of shopping. I had eaten a relatively healthy breakfast so wasn’t hungry. However, after shopping Lee wanted McDonalds. We went and I got a snack wrap and a Smarties McFlurry while he had a large meal. It’s almost like I was incapable of saying NO; I wanted something because he had something.

From what I remember, on Thursday I bought a shortbread cookie from the snack van that comes round our industrial estate at work; I threw some of it away as the guilt of eating it overwhelmed me. I went to the gym Thursday with my mum but didn’t feel like I did all I could do. I then went on Friday with my sister to fit in the 3rd day of exercise so I had been to the gym for my three times last week (better than nothing I suppose). I didn’t drink on Friday as we had to get up ridiculously early Saturday to go and pick up Lee’s daughter from down south so that was a plus to cut out the alcohol calories. On Saturday morning, we had breakfast at McDonalds (about 1000 calories with the latte included), then when we finally got back, despite me saying I would make dinner, I got lazy and we then ordered a takeaway. Me and Lee shared a kebab but had our own chips and I even had 2 slices of pizza. So it’s fair to say I felt hugely guilty after eating this and just couldn’t shake it.

Then to make things worse from getting back on Saturday to the end of Sunday, I was just snacking on cookies which is not good. I don’t get why I do this to myself. I know a cookie has about 60 calories in but I still eat it…and then another one. After my driving lesson (yes I have started those finally!) I made a toasted egg sandwich for my breakfast. We went food shopping and got lots of healthy food and then went over to Lee’s mum’s house for Sunday dinner. It was beautiful and my plate was 90% veg but we had steak pie with it. I know how bad pastry is calorie-wise but it tasted so good! I felt like a naughty child.

I’m all for everything in moderation but this week I sort of feel like I haven’t done all I could do to ensure I get that half a lb that I am so craving for my 6 stone. It wouldn’t surprise me if I put on to be honest but if I do, I will know why. This is why I got as big as I did in the first place. If I have a bad day, sometimes (not always) I just keep eating the bad stuff and thinking everything will be ok.

From re-reading my food intake over the past week, its clear to say that I probably won’t get my 6 stone loss come weigh day. However, at least I know why. This is far better than trying so hard and not getting the weight loss you want. I know my faults and I know what to do to fix them (sew my mouth up) but it’s not all bad. My portions have been smaller. Even though I had takeaway on Saturday, the amount of food I had was a lot smaller compared to what it could have been and although I have eaten badly, I haven’t had three square meals each day due to being so busy so maybe this will slightly counteract my bad eating choices.

Today is Monday and I fully intend on trying my best to hopefully prevent a gain on Wednesday but I am only human. Like everyone else, I have weak moments. This past week has definitely been one of them but I am not worried because my clothes fit better this week than they did a few weeks ago. I am doing more toning exercises at the gym for my stomach, arms, legs and bum. I feel like I can do more and since my mum re-joined, overall I have been pushing myself further at the gym. This is all positive.

It’s important to remember the good things when you have a bad week, regardless of what it relates to. Whether its work, family, food or exercise, we all have to pick out those positive moments when we feel defeated. Failure is not an option. Everything I have just talked about is only half the story. I have until Wednesday to turn things around and am taking active steps to eat better this week and generally do better with my healthy lifestyle plan.

So here’s to the next few days. Let’s see what we can do!
